Cahuita National Park
So much to do! Enter four blocks away from Cabinas Jenny and pay by donation. The staff at the entrance speaks English and Spanish and are friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. Activities include:

• Hiking, bird and wildlife watching in the pristine rainforest that comes all the way to the beach
• Snorkeling and diving on the largest live reef in Costa Rica
• Body surfing, swimming and sunbathing on the 2km long, crescent shaped, white/golden sand beach.
  
  This beach won the Banderas Azul (blue flag) award for environmental quality in 1996 and retains its' pristine status even now.

Playa Negra
Just north of Cahuita and a short walk from town, this black sand beach was formed by volcanic activity. You'll find great surfing, bird watching, swimming and fishing along this beach.

Butterfly Garden
More than 15 species of butterflies in a netted garden, and a beautiful variety of flowering plants to keep both you and the butterflies entertained. Don't miss the blue Morpho!

Aviarios Sloth Wildlife Sanctuary
Judy and Luis Arroyo are the goodhearted owners of this amazing place where orphaned sloths and damaged sloths are loved and tended to. Come meet them and fall in love!

Tours to the Indigenous Reservations
The Cabecar, Kekoldi, and Bribri peoples live freely here in their protected homeland on three reservations. They speak Spanish and wear western clothes, but maintain their ancestral beliefs and customs. Come explore some of their villages and experience their traditions. You can buy native hand-crafted goods and visit a shaman and healer.

Iguana Farm
Opened in 1997, the Iguana Farm, owned and managed by Asociación Civil Kekoldi Wak Ka Koneke (a Bribri indigenous organization), breeds green iguanas for release into the wild. Tours to a bird observation platform and the iguana farm are conducted by bilingual guides. This reserve is a prime site for seeing migratory raptors. Handicrafts made from natural fibers are available for purchase.

Bicycling
This region of Costa Rica is great for both road and mountain biking. Traffic is friendly for bikers and you'll share the road with plenty of fellow two-wheeled travelers! See Costa Rica up close and personal from a bike seat!

Horseback Riding
Romantic and adventurous guided tours in the forests and on the beach. There are a number of these tours available in and around Cahuita. Learn about exotic plants and animals, see amazing scenery, gallop on a beach for an unparalleled sense of freedom!

Waterfall Tours
By foot or on horseback, travel through the forest and swim in the pools at the base of 75 foot plus waterfalls. Bring your camera, good walking shoes with good grip, your walking stick and your bathing suit! Most tour operators provide bilingual guides, and often, fresh fruits for you to snack on during your trek.

Canopy Tours
A canopy tour entails you flying through the treetops on zip lines! It's the best way to see the abundant life that lives at the top of the rain forest. Your guides will harness you safely and take you through the trees. Better than any thrill ride and far more beautiful!

Cahuita offers unique shopping. You can find many handcrafted and ecologically sensitive goods here. Come see what we have to offer!

Surfing
The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica offers some great surfing right here in town. Bring your board and head to the national park or to the black sand beach north of town. The waves are good, the swells frequent, the beaches uncrowded. If you crave the thrill of bigger waves, the famous Salsa Brava is a short cab or bus ride away near Puerto Viejo.
